Log Cabins and Weekend Houses - Planning Information

There are some general rules regarding whether a building needs a planning application or not, however these general rules presume that you do not live in a Conservation area or there are no existing Covenants on the land or main dwelling..

You do not need planning in the following cases:

  1. The building is more than 5m from the main dwelling
  2. The building is less than half of your garden area
  3. The building is no further forward than the main dwelling
  4. The building is less than 4m in height to the ridge or 3m for a flat roof

It is always down to the individual to check the planning laws with their own local council because the rules can change with some councils.
